Where to Stay in San Diego for a Bachelorette Party, Compared
La Jolla, Coronado, the Gaslamp, Pacific Beach or North County for a San Diego bachelorette party, compared on rental rules, spas, brunch and the cooler stop.

Figuring out where to stay in San Diego for a bachelorette party mostly comes down to picking the right part of town, because the five that work are pretty different from each other, and most of the groups we see having a rough weekend booked somewhere that did not fit them. La Jolla is for a group that wants one really good dinner and a sunset more than a nightclub. Coronado is the one everybody can agree on when the ages are all over the place and the bride’s mom is coming. The Gaslamp is downtown, where you stay in one hotel and walk to everything, so nobody has to get in a car after dark. Pacific Beach is where you rent a house with a kitchen and a patio a few blocks from the beach bars. And North County, meaning Encinitas, Cardiff and Del Mar, is for the bride who wants a massage, brunch on the sand and a fire on the beach at night.
Here is how the five compare, and if you already know which kind of weekend you want, the itinerary guide lays out six full weekends, and the bachelor version of this piece covers the same neighborhoods for the guys.
The short version
- La Jolla: one good dinner, a kayak morning and a sunset. Book La Valencia, or Orli La Jolla for a smaller group. About 20 minutes from the airport. Cooler stop: Valley Farm Market and La Jolla Liquor on La Jolla Boulevard, or Keg N Bottle on Torrey Pines Road.
- Coronado: mixed ages, moms invited, the easiest one to agree on. Hotels only: the Hotel del Coronado, the Coronado Island Marriott or Loews Coronado Bay. About 15 minutes from the airport. No shop on the island carries us, so load up on the mainland or ship.
- The Gaslamp: going out is the point, a rooftop pool, no driving all weekend. Book Pendry San Diego or the Hard Rock Hotel. About 10 minutes from the airport. No shop downtown yet; The Bottle House and David’s Friendly Market are a short ride east.
- Pacific Beach: a bigger, louder group, a house with a kitchen, the beach bars a walk away. Rent a house a few blocks off the boardwalk, or book Tower23. About 15 to 20 minutes from the airport. Cooler stop: Chips Liquor on Garnet and Crest Liquor on Ingraham.
- North County: a spa morning, brunch on the sand, a fire ring at night. Book Alila Marea in Encinitas, L’Auberge Del Mar, or a house in Cardiff or Leucadia. About 35 to 45 minutes from the airport. Cooler stop: Seaside Market in Cardiff, Moonlight Wine and Spirits on the 101, or Valley Farm Market in the Del Mar Plaza.
La Jolla
La Jolla is the one we would pick for most groups, because the best day and the best dinner are a ten minute walk apart and nobody has to drive. La Valencia has been on Prospect Street since 1926, it is pink, and it is the hotel most people picture when they think of La Jolla. The Med is the restaurant with the terrace over the water and the right place for the one big dinner of the trip, and La Sala is the lobby bar for a drink before and after. If the group is six or seven people, look at Orli instead, thirteen rooms in a 1913 Irving Gill house a short walk from the Village, and they rent out the whole hotel, which gets you a private house without any of the rental rules below.
Do the water in the morning before the wind picks up. Everyday California runs a ninety minute kayak tour of the sea caves out of La Jolla Shores, and it is an easy group activity, nobody needs any experience. For sunset go to Windansea instead of the Cove, since the Cove is packed and loud at that hour, and here is what you are looking at when the sun goes. Valley Farm Market on La Jolla Boulevard is the stop for the house and carries SUNGOD, as do La Jolla Liquor and Keg N Bottle, and the La Jolla guide covers the rest of the Village.
Coronado
Coronado gets decided by the rental rules before anything else. The city does not allow rentals shorter than 26 consecutive nights in its residential zones, so there is no bachelorette house on Coronado, and any listing that says otherwise is likely to get canceled. That means a hotel, which works well here, because everything is close and easy, and that matters when the ages range from twenty-five to sixty. The Del is the obvious pick, with the Sun Deck fire pits on the beach side (drinks until eight most nights and nine on Friday and Saturday), Babcock & Story Bar inside with live music Thursday through Saturday, and a spa that was rebuilt and reopened in the summer of 2025 with its own infinity pool. The Coronado Island Marriott by the Ferry Landing costs less, and Loews on the Silver Strand is the one if you need connecting rooms.

Take the ferry at least once. It leaves Broadway Pier every hour, nine dollars one way, fifteen minutes across, and the view of the skyline about halfway over is the best in the city. At the Ferry Landing, Holland’s Bicycles rents surreys, the four-wheel bikes with a canopy that seat six adults, and it is flat all the way to the Del. The last boat back runs around ten, a little later on Friday and Saturday. No shop on the island carries us, so pick up the cooler on the mainland before you cross, or ship a case to the hotel.
The Gaslamp
The Gaslamp makes sense when going out is the main point of the trip, because you check into one hotel and walk everywhere. Pendry San Diego is the one we recommend, with a rooftop pool where The Pool House rents daybeds and cabanas, Spa Pendry for the next morning, Provisional for brunch, Fifth & Rose for a first drink and Lionfish for dinner. The Hard Rock at 207 Fifth Avenue is louder, with the Float pool on the roof, cabanas you can book for a group, and a page on their site specifically for bachelorette weekends.

Two things to know. The car-free stretch of Fifth Avenue ended in early 2026 when the city stopped funding it, so it is a regular street with traffic again. And no shop downtown carries SUNGOD yet, so it is a short ride east to The Bottle House on Grape Street or David’s Friendly Market on 32nd Street, or order a case to the hotel before anyone lands.
Pacific Beach
Pacific Beach is the classic bachelorette setup, a house a few blocks from the beach and the bars. Rent a few blocks off the boardwalk rather than on it, since you want a kitchen and a patio, and the places right on Ocean Front Walk are loud until two in the morning. If the group would rather have a hotel, Tower23 is the one, 44 rooms right on the boardwalk. Lunch is fish tacos at Oscar’s Mexican Seafood on Emerald Street (the original Turquoise Street shop closed in 2025), and the night is Mavericks Beach Club on Garnet, with half a dozen bars, fire pits and a dance floor in the back, open until two most nights, and they take table reservations on Friday and Saturday if you want a section held.

One thing to know before anyone packs a cooler for the beach: San Diego banned alcohol on its beaches, boardwalks and beach parking lots in 2008, and PB is where the tickets get written, so drinks stay at the house. Chips Liquor on Garnet and Crest Liquor on Ingraham both carry SUNGOD, and that is what we bring to a PB house, because after a day in the sun beer gets heavy by late afternoon and a drink with no carbonation does not. The house rules matter more here than anywhere else on this list, since the PB rental companies hand out noise fines quickly, so the party is at Mavericks and the house is for the mornings.
North County
Go north if the bride would rather relax than go out. Alila Marea sits above the beach at the north end of Encinitas, and Spa Alila has five treatment rooms and a day package for people not staying at the resort, a fifty minute massage or facial plus a pass to the pool, so the group can rent a house in Cardiff or Leucadia and still spend the morning at the resort. L’Auberge Del Mar, in the middle of the village, is the other hotel option and has its own spa.

Brunch is at Poseidon in Del Mar, right on the sand on Coast Boulevard, Saturday and Sunday from ten to two, and you need a reservation. Valley Farm Market in the Del Mar Plaza is the stockist up the hill. For the evening go back up to Encinitas, where Moonlight Beach has fire rings on the sand that cannot be reserved, so send one car early to claim one, and no alcohol or glass is allowed on the beach. Seaside Market in Cardiff is open seven to ten every day and the Cardiff Crack tri-tip is an easy dinner for a group (here is how to get it without the line), Moonlight Wine and Spirits on the 101 is the last stop before the beach, and the Encinitas playbook covers parking and the wind.
Rentals up here have their own rules: Encinitas requires a permit and a minimum stay on whole-house listings that was three nights and is being cut to two this year, and Del Mar has a three-night minimum, so plan on three nights or book a hotel.
Before you book a house
Three things to check on any listing inside the city of San Diego, which includes La Jolla and PB. The license number, which the city requires in every listing, so if it is not there, ask. The minimum stay, since whole-home rentals have a two-night minimum, and Mission Beach, the strip between PB and the bay, has a cap on licenses that is fully issued, which is why the good beach houses book up months ahead for a summer weekend. And the house rules on noise, because quiet hours run from ten at night to seven in the morning everywhere on this list and the fines go to the renter, not the host.

Questions people ask
01 What is the best area to stay in San Diego for a bachelorette party?
La Jolla if the weekend is built around one good dinner, a kayak morning and a sunset, Coronado when the ages are mixed, the Gaslamp if the group wants to go out and not drive, Pacific Beach if the group wants a house with a kitchen near the beach bars, and Encinitas or Cardiff for a spa morning and a fire ring at night. Each one is covered above with where to book and the shop that carries us.
02 Can you rent a bachelorette party house in Coronado?
No. Coronado does not allow rentals shorter than 26 consecutive nights in its residential zones, so a weekend house on the island is not a legal listing and the ones that show up tend to get canceled. Coronado is a hotel weekend, the Hotel del Coronado, the Marriott by the Ferry Landing or Loews on the Silver Strand, and groups that want a house look at Pacific Beach or La Jolla instead.
03 How much does a San Diego bachelorette weekend cost per person?
The planning sites that track this put a two or three night San Diego bachelorette between about seven hundred and twelve hundred dollars a person before flights, and the neighborhood is most of the difference. A Pacific Beach house split eight ways with a cooler and one bar night comes in at the low end, and La Valencia or the Del with a spa morning and a boat comes in at the top.
04 Is La Jolla or Pacific Beach better for a bachelorette party?
La Jolla if the group wants one good dinner and a sunset more than a late night, Pacific Beach if the group wants a house near the beach bars and plans to be out until two. They are fifteen minutes apart, so a La Jolla house can do one night in PB and still wake up somewhere quiet, which is what we would suggest for most groups.
05 What should you check before booking a San Diego Airbnb for a bachelorette party?
The short-term rental license number, which the city requires in every listing, the minimum stay, since whole-home rentals in San Diego carry a two-night minimum and Encinitas and Del Mar run longer, and the house rules on noise. Quiet hours run from ten at night to seven in the morning, amplified music the neighbors can hear is not allowed after ten, and the fines land on the renter, so plan the party at the bars and keep the house for the mornings.
Once the house is booked
Stock it before the first flight lands
Whichever neighborhood wins, the can that holds up from a spa morning to a fire ring at ten is the same one, and a case ships to the door.
